September and October have flown by.  It’s hard to believe that it’s November 3rd and less than 4 weeks to Thanksgiving and our next show in Sunriver.  Plans to develop an online shop has been put on the back burner.  This is due, in part, to a website refresh after taking a fresh look at what we want to accomplish on our website.

Website Refresh

First, studies show that websites need to be freshened up every 18 months.  Our website went live April 2013.  So the current trend uses Themes, which help small business owners easily change their website formats.  And, they combine the traditional informational website with e-commerce.

E-Commerce Based

So, we’re working on creating a new website that is e-commerce based.

  • The catalog will include the products we create – some for sale, some custom work.
  • Photos of products will be posted once – in our catalog.
  • Weekly blogs will focus on what’s going on in the shop and new product additions.
  • Videos will be used to demonstrate how we create our products.
  • Email addresses of visitors will be requested to build a customer database for newsletters, future product announcements, and special deals.
  • Products will also be featured in Pinterest with a direct link to the website.

Graphical Content

And the structure of the website will be simple, with more graphical content.

  • Infographics will be used to describe our processes, especially for creating custom work.
  • Our catalog will allow the ability to search for specific items, like holiday gifts.  We will use the WooCommerce store front, which is widely used by online stores.  Our catalog will be just like a catalog you get in the mail – browse to your heart’s content.  If you want to buy, you can click on a button to add to your cart or your wishlist.
  • This holiday season, we hope to start with a few items.  Over the next year, we will have all of our products available for viewing in our catalog.
  • The process for custom orders will start in the shop as well.
