It seems like we are continually in website update mode.
And sometimes you just have to bite the bullet and update software – even if it means you are spending more time and money to replicate what you currently have.
Make sense? Yes and No. WordPress and WooCommerce recently notified users that major updates have been made to website software. The pros and cons of spending the time to do these updates must be weighed. It’s not just a simple case of hitting the “Update” button. Everyone wishes that were the case. Newer features and improvements mean that functionality will no doubt change. Products added in one version now must be “imported” into the new version. All of the product information does not neatly translate into the new version.
The advantages outweigh the problems of proceeding with the website update. Protection from hackers and a more responsive mobile site are a plus. The good news? We can get a 2nd version of the website ready to go, and that becomes the new live site when we are ready. The bad news? No bad news for users. The new live site functions pretty much as the old one did. WooCommerce contains our products, used to create our future store. We’ll just be spending more time to ensure the site is working properly.
So, thanks for your patience as Sunriver Metal Works updates our software to the newest version.
