People Buy From People.
People buy from people. Very wise words indeed, when it comes to thinking about your small business. It’s something we continually come back to, especially after doing a trade show.
Last weekend we had our booth set up at a local Home & Garden Show in Sunriver. Several people we’ve done work for stopped by to say hello. And we met people new to the area who were interested in finding out more about our custom work. It’s a treat for us to get out of the shop and spend a few hours just visiting. Selling a few items is just an added bonus.
You tend to forget that people appreciate meeting and talking to the people that actually create the work. It’s that personal connection to a product that you never find in a big box store.
Here’s the thing – we REALLY enjoy seeing the reaction that people have when you deliver a custom metal piece to them. Many items are shipped, but somehow their enthusiasm for their new custom wall art or sign always comes through – even in emails. Everything from custom motorcycles as Christmas presents to a special Father’s Day gift – you know the receiver was given something very special. It was visualized by our client and created by Sunriver Metal Works. And sometimes we even let our clients get into the act (and she might even be the person who told us that people buy from people)!
The Bottom Line
Finally, people want to know who you are. So don’t be afraid to get out there. Whether at a show or in social media, just be real.
