We love what we do. You have to in order to be successful. At least we think so. Creativity seems to be our secret sauce in this competitive market.
Creativity
Definition – “the use of the imagination or original ideas, especially in the production of an artistic work.”
It’s also a discipline according to Wikipedia. “Creativity is a phenomenon whereby something new and somehow valuable is formed. The created item may be intangible or a physical object.”
According to Robert Greene, “Creativity is a combination of discipline and a childlike spirit.”
And, we feel our creativity is the secret sauce that make us different from all the rest.
Competition in the Marketplace
Lots of competition exists out there for metal art. All you have to do is Google metal art, and you’ll find companies everywhere. From big box stores to Etsy to small business, you’ll find a wide variety of products. Many of the companies create similar products. Word art and small signs seem to be the most popular.
When we first started, we did small trade shows in the local area. Back in 2012, we were one of the few local metal artists. And, we did trade shows. We used patinas instead of powder coating and torch. Each piece was made by one person. By hand. Yes – we have a CNC plasma machine. But, we use only our designs in our work. We design, CNC cut, hand grind, apply patinas, and finish with automotive clear coat. Our business is two people – Mike and Pat. Mike does most of the design and shop work. Pat does all the website and office work.
Many companies are larger than we are. They mass produce items. We create each piece one at a time as they are ordered.
Custom Work is our Specialty
We started receiving more custom orders because of our website. Mike enjoys creating custom orders more than mass producing pieces. It was a natural conclusion to quit doing the trade shows and focus on custom. We’ve even heard from several of our customers that you can’t find companies to do custom orders. Incredible!
Our Secret Sauce
Apparently, we’ve found a niche that needed to be filled. We use creativity to make customer’s vision a reality. A recent client is a perfect example.
Joyce and her husband wanted to create a unique gift for their daughter and new husband. Her request seemed simple enough.
Her daughter created a design to go on a coozie for wedding guests. She wanted to make that design into a piece of metal art. Mike interpreted the design using his knowledge and skill. They loved the finished piece!
It’s the knowledge of what can be done in metal with that childlike spirit that makes it all work.
Just contact us if you have an idea, and we’ll help you make it a reality!
