We have retired in Arizona and appreciate your support over the years. Stay tuned for our new creative adventures! – Mike & Pat

The sounds of an air compressor and hammering on the roof have disrupted our normally tranquil mornings this and last week.  And, of course, we’re breaking heat records this week!  Things are sizzling at Sunriver Metal Works!

Mike was spraying in the paint booth (aka shipping container) yesterday.  As you can see by the picture, it was 124 degrees.  He didn’t stay in there for long!

It hasn’t been a whole lot cooler on the roof of the house.  We’ve had our place described as a 5,000 square foot shop with an attached house.  It’s also been described as the ideal man cave.  Lots of shop with a smallish house.  Needless to say, we have A LOT of roof.  100 Squares (in roofing terms) to be exact.  We’ve had 2 or 3 major hail storms in the last 2 years (but who’s counting).  Bottom line – we had to replace the roof.  All of it!

First, the rip off and new felt (3 days).  Our high temps are in the low 90’s this week, so the roofers are usually out of here by 2 (ahh – peace and quiet).  But they are starting at 6 AM to make up for it.

Next, the stocking of the shingles (that was fun to watch).

Finally, this week they’re working their way around the roof.  It’s a hard job, and we’re glad we don’t have to do it!  Despite the heat, they’re making good progress and hope to be done the first of next week.

So, our work continues on.  Not exactly conducive to concentration or thought provoking blog post writing.  We’ll survive though and have a new roof to boot.  Things are sizzling at Sunriver Metal Works!
