We have retired in Arizona and appreciate your support over the years. Stay tuned for our new creative adventures! – Mike & Pat

We love creating new things at Sunriver Metal Works.  It’s even better when new things are created from old things.  “Everything old is new again” was really true on a recent request for custom metal work.

Everything old is new again

Do you remember this trivet from your parents or grandparents home?

everything old is new again

We both remember our grandparents having this trivet in their homes.  The sentiment is currently popular and seen in home decor in many different forms.  We created one “grow old” version for a soon-to-be-married couple last year.   This just goes to show you that good sentiments span the generations.

How Did We Create It?

When we receive a Contact Form  from our website, potential customers send information about the type of metal work they wish to create.  Hopefully, they send a phone number and images with the contact.  Because we usually estimate based on square feet, the desired dimensions of the finished piece are also helpful.  We look at the image to determine the best way to create the piece.  In this case, we recommended a double layer sign to accent the words, rings, and hearts.

Some of the process is a leap of faith for the customer.  When we send a prototype, we describe what the finished pieces will look like.  The prototype, however, is black and white.  Thus, the leap of faith on the finished product.

The End Result

In this case, our customer wanted to re-create the trivet as a focal point for their kitchen.  His parents gave him their trivet, which he fondly remembered from his childhood.  The original trivet is located next to the stove in their kitchen.  He received the finished piece last week, and sent us a photo of the installed trivet art.  His reaction – “Let me start by saying that you exceeded my expectations! Thanks for helping a part of my parents to always be with me.”

His reaction is what makes our work so satisfying.
